San Jose State Football Predictions 2010

The San Jose State Spartans sent retired head coach Dick Tomey out on a down note last season, winning just 2 of 12 games.  Tomey collected 183 wins in his career and new head coach Mike MacIntyre will be looking for his first on September 4th at Alabama.  The Spartans return 15 starters and hope to play competitive football in what should be a rebuilding year. View the full conference breakdown in our 2010 WAC football predictions article.

If SJSU is going to turn things around in a short period of time they better figure out a way to run the ball more effectively.  The Spartans averaged only 77 yards/game on the ground in 2009 and have not averaged more than 100 yards the past three seasons.  RB Lamon Muldrow is capable of producing in the backfield, but did not get much of an opportunity to do so last year.  He led the team in rushing with 592 yards and three touchdowns after transferring in from junior college.  His workload will likely increase under new offensive coordinator Tim Landis.  Muldrow is more of a downhill runner while RB Brandon Rutley gives SJSU more speed at tailback.  QB Jordan La Secla started in eight games last season and threw for 1926 yards and 10 touchdowns, but was benched for the final two of the 09′ season.  Battling La Secla for the starting position will be Matt Faulkner and Fresno State transfer Dasmen Stewart.  The wide receiver position has some experience despite losing their top produce from a year ago in Kevin Jurovich.  Marquis Avery was second on the team in catches with 42 and had a team high six td receptions.  Jalal Beauchman was not far behind with 35 receptions and will provide depth on the outside as will Josh Harrison.  The offensive line will play a large role in how much the offense improves this season.  Three starters return and plenty have starting experience so they should be able to increase the yards/game running the ball.

As bad as the offense struggled to run the ball last year, the defense gave up yards to opposing offenses with great ease.  The Spartan defense was one of the worst in the nation against the run, allowing 259 yards/game and gave up 34.5 points/game also.  Seven starters return on the defensive side of the ball and will be led by newly minted defensive coordinator Kent Baer (previously LB coach here).  The defensive line played a large role in how awful the rush defense was last season.  DE Carl Ihenacho was their most consistent performer a year ago and departed, but they do have five players with starting experience up front.  Pompey Festejo is solid in the middle of the Spartan defense and ranked third on the team in tackles with 83 in 09′.  Tiuke Tuipulotu will make the move from safety to linebacker after collected 52 tackles in the secondary.  He will likely be on the smallest linebackers in the country at 205 pounds.  SS Duke Ihenacho is the most talented player on defense for SJSU.  His 89 tackles were second on the team and he earned 1st team WAC honors for his play last season.  FS Tanner Burns led the team in tackles as a sophomore and is a gifted player in his own right.  While this defense won’t be confused for one of the best units in the WAC, they should show a considerable amount of improvement against the run.

Defending national champion Alabama will get their 2010 season started with a home game vs. San Jose State on the opening weekend of college football.  The Spartans then travel to Big Ten country and face-off against the Badgers of Wisconsin.  WAC plays opens on October 9th at Nevada.  The following week they will host national title contender Boise State.  The schedule is front loaded with really tough match-ups for this team, but if they can get through those games fairly healthy their should be some opportunity to win a couple games down the stretch.  I believe they win a total of 3 games.

Finding Out What Is High Definition Television

If you love visual entertainment on the cutting edge, HDTV – or High Definition Television gives you a preview of the future; images and sound that is so real it takes you into the experience. High-definition television takes digital television or DTV to the next level. Or least that is what we have been promised. When the first HDTV announcement was made in 1998, high-tech fans along with movie buffs anxiously awaited its release. But several years have passed since the introduction of this technology for many people it has failed to live up to their expectations.

Part of the problem is that HDTV, analog and digital terms have a lot of people confused. As the United States broadcasters move closer to the date where their signals must be converted from analog to digital in 2009, consumers should be aware that purchasing an analog television should include DTV or digital television signal capability so that they can continue to receive television programming.

As United States broadcasters work through the conversion period from analog to digital television, the signal transmits the information for the video and sound in binary code instead of a wave; using the UHF portion of the radio spectrum with a 6 MHz bandwidth, the same as analog TV signals. Digital television or DTV provides the viewer with several advantages:

Start Training In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with the Kimono (Gi) or No Gi

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Kimono (also known as a Gi)

Having a nice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Kimono (or Gi) makes training so much more enjoyable. Wearing your Karate or Judo Gi to train in Jiu Jitsu just isn’t the same. These Gi’s are not made for the sport and will probably end up tearing; not to mention, they are not very comfortable for this type of training. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Kimono or Gi comes in so many different styles and designs, so finding one that you like won’t be a problem.  Choose a Gi that has the color and style you want and find one that fits properly. Many tournaments have rules for how your BJJ Gi needs to fit, so if you’re planning on using your Gi in a tournament, make sure it meets these requirements. The sizings are all pretty much the same and go by height and the sizing chart is listed on the sites.

Start off with one Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Kimono to use in training. Just make sure that you wash it regularly and hang it up in a good ventilated area to dry. Jiu Jitsu Gi’s have a tendency to shrink a lot in the dryer, so always hang your Gi up to dry. In summer months, outside is always best unless it is humid.  It takes at least a full day for it to dry completely, so if you start training more than 2 days a week, eventually you will need to purchase another one. Now you can buy the same Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Kimono you already have, if you really like it, or you can try out another one. It’s always nice to have a few different ones.  It’s kind of like having a few different outfits instead of wearing the same old thing all the time. If you buy more than one Gi, they will last you longer but also, you will be hygienically cleaner. There can be a lot of germs and bacteria in the gym; you want to make sure you stay clean as possible.

And that is pretty much it. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a simple sport. You do not need too much to get started; just a Gi and a training partner, and you’re set. With that being said, have fun and train hard.

BJJ-No Gi

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of those sports that has two elements to it; Gi and No Gi. No Gi emerged when BJJ practitioners ventured into Mixed Martial Arts. They didn’t want to wear the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Kimono, so they put on their tights and scared off all the fans! Thankfully, a few years later we all adopted the surf shorts, which are now known as MMA fight shorts.

MMA Fight shorts are pretty basic to buy. There are so many online MMA stores, you can find all of the jiu jitsu clothing you are looking for and they are all priced relatively the same. Go online and find a pair of MMA fight shorts you really like and start training.

Once MMA became more popular, more jiu jitsu clothing became available, and fighters began to train in rashguards which are tight shirts. This is to keep the other persons sweat off of you, not to mention the dirt from the gym. And just like the fight shorts, rashguards are very simple to buy. Just find one you really like and go ahead and grab them. All you have to decide is if you like short sleeve or long sleeve.

Another thing to consider is how much jiu jitsu clothing you’ll need. If you are training a couple times a week, you do not need too many outfits. If you are a gym rat, you may want to have lots of jiu jitsu clothing. The last thing you want to do is wear the same unwashed sweaty clothes over and over again. If you need lots of jiu jitsu clothing, but you cannot afford to buy that much, there is another solution. Go to a sporting goods store or any store where you can find surf shorts and tight workout tops. They are usually cheaper than fight apparel, except they are not nearly as stylish and comfortable. Most fighters have some name brand clothing that they really like and compensate the rest with cheaper apparel.

Be sure that you get enough jiu jitsu clothing so it will last you until the next wash cycle, and you’re not doing laundry every day. And buy stuff you will enjoy wearing, so training becomes much more enjoyable.

How to Choose Ice-hockey Stick

Ice Ice-hockey stick was made from wood or other materials approved by the International Ice Hockey Federation (such as lead quality or plastic). It can be divided into ordinary stick and door-keeper stick. General stick enjoys a length within 147cm from root to stem; shot edge from root to end should be no more than 32cm with the width between 5.0-7.5cm, the entire edge is inclined plate, at any point from the blade root to the ends is straight line and the maximum curvature of the vertical distance should be no more than 1.5cm from straight line to the outside edge. Goalkeeper stick should be in 11.5cm in width, the rest part enjoys the width within 9cm, and from root to stem it cannot exceed 147cm.

When we select the stick, we should choose those enjoy a fixed hitting between plate and one end of the shank, and we should select the straight handle, the hitting boards should be glued bamboo products. The shot plate was connected by gum between the straight shank board on plate groove glue on the straight handle; the groove should have upper and lower openings, The beginning and ending should extent respectively the pre-glued pieces and gluing pieces. Straight shank will have a strong combined with ball plate, when hitting the energy of ice-hockey enjoys a small loss.

Traditional stick was made of wood, and it was carved by the ash, maple or elm, recent as materials’ advance there are different combinations: shaft + blade, generally, most of the wooden shaft should not use blade that is regardless of blade, we need to change for a new stick when it was old.

The aluminum pole and carbon fiber rods can be changed to blade, after wearing and tearing we can use alternative materials to replace them. But the aluminum bar and carbon fiber bar enjoy a expensive price, if you change for a better blade, the price was similar to buy a new imported wood.

The harder the stick is, the faster the ball will shift, but this needs a strong arm, it is suitable for professional players. Generally the speed of the ball hit by Ice hockey players can reach 100 mile per hour, when experienced players do “slap shot”, he will hit the back of the ice ball, coupled with under pressure to bend the stick, and this action is called “load”. But if the club was harder, it needs greater strength to bend, so it is even more difficult.

Aluminum stick is a hard stick, while resin stick was enhanced according to the arrangement of fibers, it has different flexibility and hardness and we have great choices. The material of stick is very important, which will affect the ball and speed. The angle between shaft and blade is called “lie”, lie angle the smaller the better control of the ball (the ball away from the body close), the smaller the angle of “lie” is, the greater the stick is. But the domestic business is not that professional, so there is less choice. And the length of stick should match a person’s height.

BCS Predictions: 2010 Idaho Vandals

One of the great surprise stories in 2009 college football predictions was the Idaho Vandals as they won the Humanitarian Bowl over Bowling Green 43-42 which sparked a wild celebration on the field after the game as their fans stormed the famed blue turf in Boise. It was the first bowl game in 11 years for Idaho and now the question is whether or not they are ready to become a consistent post season contender in college football betting odds or a flash in the pan and one hit wonder. Idaho is a 100-1 field choice in 2011 BCS odds to win the championship at online sportsbooks.

Idaho finished with a record of 8-5 both straight up and against the spread in college football odds but their weaknesses were still apparent as they were blown out by Western Athletic Conference top contenders Nevada 45-70 and Boise State 25-63. But there were also impressive wins against San Diego State, Northern Illinois, Colorado State, and Hawaii. The fast 6-1 start to the season was a big benefit as the Vandals faded some down the stretch. Idaho returns just 4 starters in 2010 college football predictions but plenty of lettermen on offense and a highly experienced defense with 10 starters back.

Senior quarterback Nathan Enderle, who passed for 2,906 yards and a 22/9 TD/INT ratio, returns to lead an offense that scored 33 points per game in college football predictions, a 13 point leap from the previous season. First Team All WAC safety Shiloh Keo is back for his senior season after leading the team in tackles last year with 113 and picking off 3 passes. Idaho has a brutal non conference road game at Nebraska and back to back home games against WAC favorites Nevada and Boise State to start November.
